Eloping in Barbados: your ceremony, flowers and practical checklist

Planning a wedding for just the two of you should start with a clear picture of the day. Where will you marry? Who will conduct the ceremony? What paperwork do you need? And which details would you like someone local to arrange?

Destination Florals Barbados brings floral design and selected local wedding services together. You can book wedding flowers alone or enquire about an elopement with ceremony essentials arranged alongside them. This guide explains the difference, the steps to take and what to check before booking.

Government information checked 9 September 2026. Confirm the requirements that apply to your circumstances before travelling. Prices on enquiry for our packages; government fees below are separate reference amounts, not our package prices.

1. Decide what kind of celebration you want

For a couple-only elopement, start with the ceremony, two witnesses, personal flowers and a setting you love. Add photographs or a small celebration afterwards if you wish. If friends and family are joining you, tell us the guest count early: chairs, transport, shade, reception space and service requirements change as the gathering grows.

Already have a hotel or wedding planner organising the ceremony? A floral-only collection may be all you need. You should not have to book an officiant or paperwork service twice.

For a legal marriage, arrange the legal process before the ceremony. If you are already legally married and only want a symbolic celebration, tell us at enquiry so the quotation does not include an unnecessary marriage-licence service.

2. Choose your setting and check permission

Setting What to consider
Beach Permission for the setup, public access, wind, tide conditions, shade, toilets, parking and a nearby weather alternative
Garden Event access, paths and steps, ceremony space, shelter, photography rules and setup times
Private villa Written event permission, guest limits, external suppliers, noise, parking, cleaning and accommodation conditions
Hotel or restaurant Whether outside florists are allowed, minimum spend/stay, ceremony and reception capacity, furniture and venue coordination

We can discuss location options and identify what needs confirming. A scenic location is not automatically an available wedding venue. Flower Forest advertises weddings and receptions, making it a garden candidate to investigate; event fees and availability need a direct quote. Flower Forest

For NCC-managed facilities, permissions and costs depend on the proposed use. NCC lists event-related services and an application process for exclusive use of specified parks. Its published tent/structure rates should not be treated as a universal beach-wedding fee. Confirm the actual setup and applicable charges before reserving suppliers. NCC facilities and fees

3. Arrange the marriage officer and appointment

Arrange an authorised marriage officer before applying for the licence. Both applicants apply, bringing the officer's signed letter and required documents. Book the Home Affairs appointment through the link on the official guidance page. The licence is valid for three months, subject to immigration validity. Special arrangements may incur an additional fee; they are not automatic. Government marriage-licence guidance

When you request elopement support, the officiant arrangement, letter coordination, appointment support and agreed appointment transport can be included in the agreed ceremony scope. You must still supply your documents and attend as required. We confirm who is responsible for each step in your quotation.

4. Prepare your documents before travelling

For visiting couples, prepare valid passports and check birth-certificate requirements with Home Affairs. Bring proof of lawful entry. Previously married applicants need the relevant final divorce documentation or marriage and death certificates. Ask about any name changes, adoption records or inconsistent names in advance rather than assuming a single document resolves every case. Non-English documents may need certified translations; the official general translation rule excludes passports and ID cards. Check unusual cases directly. Government document requirements

Keep originals secure and accessible for your appointment. Do not pack essential documents where a delayed suitcase could disrupt the day. Confirm the accepted entry evidence rather than relying on an old app name or screenshot.

5. Understand the fees in context

Government item Published BBD amount When it applies
Marriage licence plus stamp 225 Standard non-national route: 200 licence + 25 stamp
Marriage licence plus stamp 210 Where the citizen/resident rule applies: 200 + 10 stamp
Special licence arrangements 100 additional Where approved; not a standard service charge
Non-national certificate copy 20 Check whether your booked officiant service already includes a copy
Apostille 50 Where needed for overseas use; confirm destination requirements

Fees are reference amounts, not a complete wedding budget. Licence and special-arrangement guidance, certificate copies, apostille guidance

Our quotation should show one total for the chosen elopement scope and identify any location-specific charges or optional services. Check whether government fees are included in that total or payable separately; never count them twice. Accommodation, flights and meals are not implied by an elopement package.

6. Choose your Destination Florals offering

Wedding planning with our local planner

Want support with the whole wedding? Destination Florals can help you plan your Barbados wedding from start to finish through our local wedding planner, with Patricia leading the floral design. Tell us your date, guest count, preferred setting and priorities so we can agree the planning support you need.

Planning services and floral collections are quoted with their respective inclusions clearly stated. Booking flowers alone does not automatically include full wedding planning.

Wedding flowers only

For couples who have already arranged their ceremony, Bronze provides a hand-tied bridal bouquet, matching groom boutonniere, bamboo arch with fabric and one floral cluster, plus floral delivery, setup and breakdown. Silver and Gold provide different levels of personal flowers and ceremony/reception styling. Platinum is on enquiry for a larger floral vision.

Elopement essentials

Ask us to combine a simple floral setting with an arranged officiant, marriage-officer letter coordination, licence-appointment assistance and agreed transport, two witnesses if needed, and a signing table with seating. Standard non-national licence/stamp fees and the agreed certificate provision should be accounted for once in the final quote. The selected location and any permission or hire charges must be confirmed before booking.

Request a quotation: final availability, service scope and price are confirmed in writing. This is not a promise of accommodation, a private beach or a fully catered reception.

Optional celebration touches

A couple can select what matters without buying every extra. Photography is worth discussing early, but it is not silently included in the essentials quote.

7. Plan the flowers around the setting

Tell us about the atmosphere and colours you like, along with any must-have flowers. A hand-tied bouquet, a cascading design and a statement arch have different proportions and preparation needs. Tropical flowers can bring strong colour; imported varieties may suit a different palette, subject to supply.

Patricia's design discussion allows for seasonal availability and the demands of an outdoor setup. Ask early about specific imports. We recommend giving as much notice as possible; short-notice enquiries are assessed individually. Pictures illustrate floral style rather than guaranteeing every stem or every pictured item within a collection.

8. Agree the wedding-day arrangements

Before confirming, settle the ceremony location and weather alternative, supplier access, setup and breakdown times, transport plan, witnesses, and where you will go after the ceremony. Ask who is the contact on the day and which coordination tasks are included.

A useful sequence is: paperwork appointment arranged in advance; documents and ceremony requirements checked; setup completed; ceremony and signing; photographs if booked; celebration afterwards; equipment removal. The actual schedule depends on your appointment, location and suppliers. Do not plan around an assumed four-hour total.

Visiting on a cruise?

Send the ship name, docking date, arrival time and all-aboard time before making commitments. Appointment availability, documents, transport and a return buffer all need checking. A cruise-stop enquiry is a feasibility assessment, not a guaranteed same-day service. Do not book an inflexible schedule until the arrangements are confirmed.

9. Arrange your certificate after the ceremony

Confirm who will register the marriage, how your certificate will be obtained, how many copies are included and how you will receive it if you leave Barbados. Registration is the responsibility of the marriage officer or magistrate. A licence permits the marriage; the marriage certificate is a different document. Barbados Judicial System

Ask the authority that will receive your certificate abroad whether an apostille is required. This concerns authentication for overseas use and should not be described as an automatic EU-only rule. Apostille guidance
